Our officers arrived on scene and located two vehicles with major damage in the roadway. Two of the involved parties were pronounced deceased and two others were taken to area hospitals with major injuries and are expected to survive.
The collision involved an SUV traveling westbound on Auburn Blvd and a truck traveling eastbound on Auburn Blvd. Based on witness information, it is believed that the SUV traveling westbound crossed over the center divider and collided head-on with a truck traveling eastbound on Auburn Blvd. We are early in our investigation, but it appears that speed may have been a factor.
Both eastbound and westbound lanes of Auburn Blvd are closed down from Greenback Lane to Donegal Drive. The Citrus Heights Police Department’s Traffic Unit is currently on scene conducting a thorough investigation, and it is unknown when the roadway will reopen. The identities of the deceased parties are being withheld pending notification of the next of kin by the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
Any witnesses to the collision are encouraged to contact the Citrus Heights Police Department at (916) 727-5500. The Citrus Heights Police Department wants to remind all drivers to be attentive to the roadway and other motorists.
