Capitol Pops Concert Band to Showcase George Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue at Highly Anticipated Concert “Rhapsody in Blue at 100” on May 25th, 7:00pm 2024

Carmichael, CA - The Capitol Pops Concert Band is thrilled to announce their upcoming concert on May 25th, 2024, featuring a spectacular performance of George Gershwin's iconic masterpiece, Rhapsody in Blue. The evening promises to be a celebration of musical excellence and a tribute to one of America's most beloved composers.

Conducted by Susan Hamre, the Capitol Pops Concert Band will enchant audiences with Morton Gould’s rousing American Salute and Derek Bourgeois’ beguiling Serenade for Wind Band. Extraordinary soloist and Capitol Pops youth scholarship winner Austin Hailey will perform Alfred Reed’s dreamlike Ballade, and the Capitol Pops’ own Principal Trombone Andy Miller will perform Alexandre Giulmant’s classic Morceau Symphonique. The concert will culminate in a breathtaking interpretation of Rhapsody in Blue. This timeless composition, known for its fusion of classical and jazz elements, will come to life in the hands of guest soloist Carlos Fuentes.

Carlos McMillan Fuentes is a pianist, composer, singer-songwriter, music educator, and accompanist currently serving as Keyboardist and Composer-In-Residence for Symphony d’Oro, Rancho Cordova. He has appeared in concert with many Sacramento-area orchestras, choirs, and performing arts organizations and has written hundreds of compositions, from solo piano to choir and full orchestra. In 2018, his piano-clarinet duo “Carlos & Brennen” won First Prize in the Golden Classical Music Awards, and were invited to perform at Carnegie Hall. He earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Composition with a focus in Piano Performance from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in May 2011.

The concert will take place at Unitarian Universalist Society of Sacramento on May 25th, 7:00pm, located at 2425 Sierra Blvd, Sacramento, CA.
